City
of Belfast Photographic Society
The City
of Belfast Photographic Society was until recently the City of Belfast
YMCA Photographic Society. Due to reorganisation of the YMCA
building at Wellington Place in Belfast, we had to move and therefore
dropped the “YMCA” from our name.
Founded
in 1889 (yes 1889!) we have seen many exciting changes in photography,
from large format cameras with glass plate negatives through to
present day 35mm SLR (single lens reflex) cameras and now the digital
era is upon us. These are certainly exciting times for our
society.
Some
of Northern Ireland’s top professional photographers, who
in their earlier days passed through our photographic society, are
now making a name for themselves in the photographic world.
Most
of us of course are just keen amateur photographers, eager to improve
our photographic technique while having an enjoyable, friendly time.
We hold our annual exhibition of members' work during May
at Dundonald Library near Belfast.
The Society is a member of the Northern
Ireland Photographic Association - (NIPA). This is the organising
body for camera club photography in Northern Ireland. |
